Lido Theater Grand Opening with Sugar Ray
The Lido Theater originally opened as a single screen movie theater in 1939. It served in this capacity for several decades. Now, after some renovations, the venue is reopening as a theater and special event space. As part of the grand reopening ceremony, PCE produced a free concert featuring Newport Beach legends Sugar Ray.
Audio for this event featured JBL VRX932LA line array speakers, JBL SR4719X subwoofers, and JBL SRX712 stage monitors. Audio engineers mixed the show with two Yamaha DM7 audio consoles, one for the main PA and one for the monitors. PCE provided instrument and vocal microphones, making use of the Shure ULX-D wireless system.
Our team also rigged some Martin MAC Aura PXL lights for some visual flair. Earlier this year, we installed ETC ColorSource Spots at the sides of the theater for stage lighting. For this show, we augmented these with ETC Source 4WRD Lekos, which we used as low-footprint follow spots. A lighting designer conducted the show via an ETC ION XE console.
Sugar Ray relied heavily on PCE Backline for gear during this show. Our backline team provided a Tama Starclassic drum kit, Marshall JCM 800 Lead Series amp, Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, SWR California Blonde II, multiple Marshall 1960 BX Straight cabs, an Ampeg SVT Classic Bass Amp, and an Ampeg SVT Bass Cab. We also had numerous guitars and bass guitars available in case anything went wrong with the band's personal instruments.
