CHOC Gala 2024 (featuring Gwen Stefani)
In May 2024, PCE once again had the chance to produce the annual CHOC (Children's Hospital of Orange County) Gala, an event that raises millions of dollars for the hospital’s life saving work. This massive event includes a cocktail hour, dinner, charity auction, and a night-capping musical performance. This year's concert featured OC native Gwen Stefani!
We always do a bit of everything at the CHOC Gala, and 2024 was no exception. We deployed a Stageline SAM575 as the main stage, then rigged numerous lighting fixtures, including Chauvet Maverick Storm 1 Spot, Chauvet Maverick Strom 3 BeamWash, Chauvet Color STRIKE M, Chauvet Ovation B-2805, Chauvet COLORband PiX, Martin MAC Aura PXL, and Chroma-Q Color Force 72 lights. A PCE lighting designer managed the show via a grandMA 3 Full-Size lighting console, while Ultratec hazers created the atmosphere. Four PCE follow spot operators used Strong Super Trouper III lights to highlight the stage during the Gwen Stefani performance.
And that’s just the lighting for the main stage! PCE also deployed a ton of other fixtures at key locations throughout the event space. These included Chauvet Freedom Pars and Seablast LED IP Par lights for perimeter uplights, as well as Robe Patt 13 retro scoop lights for additional visual flair. Chauvet Rogue Outcast 2X Wash lights sat atop two entrance arches, and a step and repeat with Chauvet onAir Panel 2 IP lights allowed guests to pose for red carpet photographs.
PCE used the 2024 CHOC Gala as a chance to play with some new toys. This event marked the debut of our brand new EAW ADAPTive Systems audio gear. This incredible new technology (consisting of Anya line array speakers and Otto subwoofers) targets sound dispersal electronically depending on the size and location of the crowd. That let us deliver pristine audio to guests at the gala while limiting audio spill into Angels stadium and the surrounding neighborhood.
Audio engineers ran the event from a Yamaha DM7 console, while the various speakers and presenters used a Shure ULXD wireless microphone system to connect with the audience.
CHOC 2024 also featured a great deal of PCE video equipment. In addition to the massive video walls on the main stage, our team used Blackmagic ATEM video switchers, Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 cameras, and Panasonic PTZ cameras for image magnification. A few smaller Absen PL3.9 video walls worked as signage for various lounges/areas at the event.
Everything came together for one of the biggest and best PCE shows of the year! Watch the video above for an inside peek at this amazing event.
